On June 28, 2024, Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport faced a serious incident when part of its roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall. The accident happened early in the morning, causing panic among travellers and staff. Unfortunately, one person lost their life, and five others were injured. Emergency services, including three fire engines, quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance.
The heavy rains that hit Delhi overnight led to waterlogging in many areas, including the airport. The roof could not withstand the pressure of the accumulated water, resulting in the collapse. Flights scheduled to depart from Terminal 1 were temporarily suspended, causing delays and disruptions for many passengers.
The Aviation Minister called the incident “very serious” and promised a thorough investigation to prevent such accidents in the future. Authorities are working hard to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
